While anticipating the modifications that Year 56 of the Fair Housing Act will introduce, we must be diligent in adhering to the fundamental principles of fair housing compliance.
Irrespective of the establishment of additional protected categories, judicial rulings, or the issuance of new guidelines by HUD and DOJ, the fundamental principles of fair housing compliance will remain unchanged: All individuals who meet the requirements have the right to own or lease the residence they like. Furthermore, after they have made their selection, they have the right to fair and equal access to and enjoyment of their chosen residence. With that objective in mind, let us ensure that we steer clear of these nine prevalent compliance traps!
